AND I LOST MY HEAD DOWN A TEA CUP.

I've been working on some assignments these last couple of weeks, and during these times useless activities have the ability to masquerade as important, when really I know they are distractions. I've found myself pouring through my favourite assignments from my undergraduate degree, hoping those old words will give me fresh inspiration for what I must write today. I came across a (maga)zine I started in art college. The words of my 20 year old self made me want to bring it back from the woodwork and do it all again.

Autumn has this insatiable ability to draw out my dreams and check that I'm on track. In the new year we often write down goals, and ideas that seem good amidst salt in our hair and sand on our feet. But Autumn is where the real leg work happens for me. Life feels calmer amidst cool mornings, and those breezes that make you find a spot to stand in the sun, and then linger between the perfect balance of hot and cold. That uncomfortable tension causes you to dream, and figure out how to do something about it.

So, I'm writing assignments, but I'm in another place. I'm thinking about what I want to learn next and what we want to see of this world and of life. I pick up my tea cup and drink. And its good.

P.S. This is our friend Savannah, she also likes to drink tea.

  1. I know that feeling all too well. The cool is definitely where the [academic] work really starts to happen for me, rugged up with a warm cup of tea and a storm brewing outside. perfection.
